Eastern Cape Hotels South Africa

The Eastern Cape Hotels offers a wide range of accommodation to consider. Choose from one of the many safari reserves to luxury boutique accommodation, there is so much choice. On our recent visit to the Eastern Cape, we chose 3 different styles of accommodation to get a feel for what the Eastern Cape had to offer.

Die Tuishuise & Victoria Manor hotel

This quirky hotel is found in the town of Craddock a 4-hour drive from Port Elizabeth Airport and a good base for the Zebra National Park. The hotel is made up of the main building which is the Victoria Manor and several rooms created from old houses on Market street, a proclaimed National Heritage Street where all the houses are the original core.
The houses display the lifestyles of those who lived in them including Victorian splendor to rugged Boer era. Now part of the hotel expect to find anything from 2 bedroom cottages. Each cottage with a small living room, kitchen and back yard. Your door is straight off the street and you are instantly transported in time. Even the lighting dates back to early days so be prepared to dress by dim candlelight.

The restaurant is in the min building and takes you back to a fine old dining experience, they offer a buffet selection for the main with a wide range of selection of local foods including the famous Karoo lamb.

Drostdy in Graaff Reinet

Drostdy in Graaff Reinet a beautiful boutique hotel which completed a 2-year refurbishment program back in 2017. Originating back to the 1800’s this property has a lot of history to it and many stories to tell. With just 48 stunningly styled rooms furnished with Karoo artwork, crisp white linens, and spacious rooms. The bathroom, in particular, is large and airy with white furniture and a black and white checkerboard floor. Batchelor and standard rooms offer good space for 2 adults whilst the Executive rooms and suites give that little bit extra with a sitting area and sofa.

The hotel offers two great restaurants, the De Camdeboo offering international and local cuisine and the more relaxed Coldstream offering lighter casual dining such as Pizzas and different kinds of pasta.

The Africology Spa at the Drostdy hotel offered a selection of treatments at very reasonable prices. The location of the spa is in a tranquil setting on the property with a vined arch leading to the entrance.

Mount Camdeboo

The accommodation is well in the heart of the game reserve and made up of three restored Cape Dutch houses one of which can be rented for the sole use and two luxury safari tents. The main house, Camdeboo Manor offers 3 double suites in the main building. They also have a fourth suite referred to as the honeymoon suite (Peppertree Cottage) which was once the gatehouse to the manor. This is a stunning room with a four-poster bed, sitting area inside and private patio and garden. So tranquil and private.

The second house, Hillside Manor is more modern in still, higher located with sweeping views of the valley. It offers three en-suite bedrooms. The third house, Courtyard Manor dates back to the 1700s and offers four en-suite bedrooms and is perfect to rent as one complete villa. Each of the houses has its own swimming pools.

The valley of desolation sundowner tour which includes a picnic looking out over the geological formation of ancient eroded volcanic rock.

A walking tour following the antelope trails touch, taste, and smells of the Karoo.

This game reserve may not have the big 5 but for those looking for a Safari experience without the hunt of a kill, this is one to consider.

The Beach Hotel Port Elizabeth

The Beach Hotel is located on the beachfront close to the boardwalk and the Casino offering 58 spacious rooms with en-suites. There are 3 restaurants to choose from including The Ginger restaurant which is one of the best fine dining experiences in Port Elizabeth.

Port Elizabeth Beach Hotel

The rooms are spacious and decorated in calm cool whites with excellent bed linen, most face into the courtyard but there are some sea-facing rooms available as an upgrade. A family-owned hotel that claims to be one of the first Beach hotels in Port Elizabeth and dating back to 1894.

It’s a great hotel to choose for a few nights stopover in Port Elizabeth and great value too.
