Ischia Island is a 17-square-mile island, just 1 hour by ferry from Naples and is more popular as a tourist destination with Italians than any other nationality. Neapolitans escape the heat of the city in the summer to return year on year, often to the same guest house or hotel to visit old friends and enjoy this fabulous island.
But does Ischia offer enough for the UK visitor? With hotel prices at a higher point, where should you stay to get the best experience of this island? Read on and find out more about this beautiful island.
If you have visited the Island of Capri and fell in love with it, then Ischia’s larger towns will appeal more to you; Ischia Porto, Forio, and Lacco Ameno. But, If you are looking for quaint then the steep hills of Sant’Angelo could be for you with its ice cream and ceramic shops dotted around the village. Back in the day, your suitcases would be hoisted up through the village using mules. Thankfully, now it is a little easier to visit this lovely village to stay for the day or to escape the world and relax and rest for the week. The mules have been replaced by highly effective golf buggies!
For me Ischia Porte is the best location to base yourself to explore the island and enjoy the promenade with its many bars and restaurants. But I did fall in love with the Miramare Sea Resort and Spa, in the stunningly picturesque Sant’Angelo, overlooking Maronti Bay. It was such a beautiful location it would be my choice for 3 days or total rest and recuperation.

Nitrodi Hot Springs
These hot springs are less touristic than the other thermal parks, claiming that these healing waters regenerate your skin and hair! They also sell rejuvenating mud packs and treatments to take away and enjoy at your leisure. This location is on an exposed hillside so a visit is recommended on a hot day for a cooling treat.
