Tanzania Holidays Safaris

Tanzania such a fabulous destination and very popular with couples, particularly on honeymoon. Combine a short Safari with the beautiful white sand beaches of Zanzibar or the Kenyan coast of Mombassa. Flights are direct from London into Nairobi or Mombassa in Kenya or Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

Dar es Salaam is the largest and capital city of Tanzania. It is home to a selection of hotels, restaurants, bars, office buildings and banks. It’s busy harbour is the main port in Tanzania.
Seven kilometers to the north of the city you will find Bongoyo Island Marine Reserve where there are many excellent dive sites and areas for snorkeling. In the reserve, you can find beautiful beaches, secluded islands, and many different types of marine species.

To the South of Dar es Salaam you will find the more remote and popular National parks and reserves. Selous and Ruaha which give you a true feeling of the African Beach. A combination of the two areas will give you an excellent safari experience.

Selous camps tend to be located close or on the Rufiji river or the Lake Nzerekera. Here your game rides will combine open-top jeep, boat and on foot. Ruaha is set in the central highlands area and has a more rugged and remote landscape. Here you will find a wide assortment of game and birds.

Tanzania Accommodation

In Dar es Salaam expect to find standard hotel accommodation from guesthouses up to 5 star luxury hotel groups such as Movenpick and Kempinski. When choosing a safari then it is really down to size, location and quality of the food and safari guiding offered. For a good standard of private game, lodge expect to pay anything from £180 per person per night for full board and 2 game drives per day, with luxury private tented game reserves charging up to £500 per night.

Safari accommodation in Tanzania & the Serengeti

Selous Game Reserve offers a selection of game reserves, one to consider is the Selous Safari Camp
in the Northeast sector or the Rufiji River Campin the west of the sector situated on the river banks.
In Ruaha consider the Jongomero Camp which is set on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River in the southwest corner of the reserve. Activities here include full day game expeditions with picnic lunches. or try the Ruaha river lodge based on the rocky banks of the Great Ruaha River with sundowners by the camp-fire on the river bank.

Tanzania Safaris

There are many Serengeti Safari camps to choose from but some of the most popular choices are to sample a few when on a safari in Tanzania. Take in the views from the Ngorongoro crater Lodge staying at either the North, south or Tree camp. Mount Kilimanjaro, Lake Manyara Tree lodge and stay in one of 10 stilted tree-houses.
Another popular option is to stay at one of the migration camps and watch this wonderful event which always follows the rains.
Exact timings and location for the Migration cannot be guaranteed but as a rule November to May the animals congregate on the grassy palms of the Southern and Eastern Serengeti, May – June the animals head north, June to August the migration moves into the Masi Mara, August to November the animals stay in the Masi Mara until the new rain prompts them to move south. Family Safari
The Serengeti is a great choice for a family safari as there are many camps to choose from as well as the large game reserves in the south of Tanzania such as Selous and Ruaha game reserves.

Romantic accommodation

If you are looking for a romantic retreat just 15 minutes from Dar es Salaam then look no further than Ras Kutani a perfect hideaway of 12 simply furnished bamboo thatched cottages with large verandahs overlooking the lagoon or ocean. Or for something a little more remote then consider the Lazy Lagoon Island, which is reached by road and then a boat. It has only 12 rooms offering activities such as snorkeling, boating, fishing, and nature walks.
