India Packing Tips – A Tour of India

An Indian Holiday Tour - Packing Tips

I was recently fortunate to go on an educational of  India, and wanted to share my India Packing tips. Our tour was to include the golden triangle and a visit up to Shimla. Our host was a tour operator that specializes in touring holidays to India. It was a fantastic experience and one that I will remember for a long time due to the wonderful reception we received whilst staying in India.

It has always been on my list of destination to visit and I was not left disappointed one bit! If you want to know more, then please visit my blog and read my personal daily blog of the trip to India.  However, if you have booked to go to India and are just wondering what to pack then hopefully my India packing tips below will help you when on your own holiday to India.

Top of the list has to be drugs that you may need as it’s not always that easy to fit a visit in to the chemist when on tour, things to pack are;

  • Diahorlite, Neurophen, paracetamol, Rennies (you do eat a lot of food that has been spiced. Say no more!)
  • Insect repellent (when at the train station in Kalka we all got bitten really badly) One spot for bites
  • Hand gel x 2, Hand wipes x 2, Tissues, Toilet roll  (Indian currency is well used so be warned!)
  • Sun lotion
  • Adapters (You can buy them at the airport or online)
  • British cash (credit cards are accepted but watch out Visa didn’t always work as well as MasterCard)
  • Passport
  • Insurance Policy (if travelling in a group make sure someone knows where your details are for your insurance)
  • Pillow for travel (I must confess Virgin Atlantic, I took my pillow from the flight and it was the best used item ever!! especially on the long transfers)
  • Blanket for travel (Only when we went up to Shimla as the temperature dropped quite a bit)
  • Mints, Chewing gum, Fun size Chocolate bars
  • Hat
  • Pashmina (Mine was used many times, evening, daytime Shimla, cover for sleeping on transfers)
  • Flat shoes
  • Swim suit
  • Long sleeve tops
  • Long trousers

If you are a female and wondering what clothes to wear for the tours, I found that long or 3/4 length trousers in linen were great for all things from walking around the temples to climbing on Elephants. Also, a pair of flat soft shoes with enclosed toes were great for walking around, I personally wouldn’t have worn open toe or flip-flops on some of our tours!

Evenings are quite relaxed in the hotels depending on where you are staying, if in one of the lovely luxury hotels then dress to impress and make sure you have some nice coll frocks and of course your heels!  We hope you have found our India Packing Tips useful and if you feel inspired to travel to India get in touch.
