Majeka spa Hotel is a beautiful property situated 5 minutes outside of Stellenbosch. An easy 30 minute drive from Cape Town Airport makes it the perfect choice to start your holiday in the Winelands area of the Western Cape.
There are lots of reasons why to choose this property for your base to explore the many Vineyards. The first would have to be the location of the property which sits in a tranquil setting. The welcome on arrival is warm and friendly and continues all the way through your stay. Also the very comfortable rooms make this a home from home experience.
On arrival at Majeka spa Hotel we were lucky enough to receive a complimentary upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite pool Villa. This lovely room offers you ability to stretch out and relax and enjoy the quiet tranquil environment of the property. This room shared a pool with the adjacent room which was not occupied so we had extra privacy and pool all to ourselves. Total luxury.
The Hotel beds are equipped with only the best Linens which is wonderful to slide into bed at the end of a long lovely day. The Bathroom has a very powerful shower and hot water is quickly dispersed. Which is great in a country that often has water restrictions. The normal toiletries and fluffy towels are in the bathrooms as as well as thick towelling bath robes.
What makes this hotel special is the quality of the food. Breakfast is an experience rather than a process. There is a stunning choice of foods on offer from homemade granola and yoghurt, Frittatas, power juices, home made cakes, fruits, salmon, cold meats and cheeses to name just a few. And then there is the menu with cooked breakfast choices served with tea, coffee and sparkling wine, well we are in the wine region.
In the evenings the hotel has its own restaurant the Makron. The restaurant offers a choice of tasting dishes from 4 to 7 which can have paired wines also. Non residents can visit this restaurant and booking is essential as it is quite simply stunning. Read our separate review on the Makron restaurant, a must visit if staying in or around Stellenbosch. One of the top rated restaurants.
The bar is very quirky and a lovely place to end your day in one of the soft sofas. Or pull up a high stool at the bar and choose from one of the many cocktails on offer from Gin to Rum they have something for everyone. We particularly liked the expresso martinis. The only worrying thing about this bar are the prices at 55R for an Expresso Martini one is just not enough.
The spa again open to the public offers a range of treatments at excellent prices. It is a small space so advance booking is recommended and can be done by the time of reservation. I tried the mini pedicure which included a lovely treatment to my feet and new polish applied for just 215 Rand. It was a great experience at fabulous price.
To sum up this hotel if you are looking for comfort, service and quality this is the place for you. Add it to your itinerary for an introduction to the African hospitality, quality of food and exceptional service. If your working to a budget add one night to the end of your trip, the splurge will definitely be worth it. You certainly won’t forget this hotel once you’ve stayed one night.
